EVENTS Week Without Violence YWCA Canada's Week Without Violence, held every year during the third week in October, is a nationwide initiative to unite all Canadians against violence, racism, and sexism in our daily lives. The 2011 Power of Being a Girl Conference was held Monday, October 17 at Bingeman's Conference Centre. The keynote addresses were given by Olympian Valerie Hould-Marchand and author/activist Mariatu Kamara. Over 150 students and teachers from across Waterloo and Wellington Region participated in a variety of workshops designed to raise girls self-esteem and leadership skills. World YWCA Day Breakfast 2010 In celebration of World YWCA Day, YWCA Kitchener Waterloo hosted a breakfast followed by a presentation by Sonia Lenares, General Secretary of YWCA Belize. She discussed the social and economic impact of educating girls, specifically the YWCA Belize Helping Early School Leaver's Program. The keynote address was given by Galina Tsiuryna, General Secretary of La Strada International, a program of YWCA Belarus. She discussed the Global Impact of Human Trafficking.
